Sculptra
Over time skin loses its full, firm, youthful appearance because of the natural ageing process. From an early age the amount of collagen the body produces slows down. Collagen is the substance the body produces to give the skin a firm and youthful appearance. Fatty tissue which maintains the fullness of the face is also lost so that the face becomes thin, narrow and more aged.
Sculptra helps the skin to replace lost collagen to smooth lines and wrinkles creating a more naturally youthful appearance.
What is SCULPTRA?
Sculptra is an injectable treatment that stimulates the skins own collagen to smooth out lines and wrinkles. Sculptra also restores lost facial volume gradually thus creating a fuller younger looking face.
Suitable area for SCULPTRA
Unlike some dermal fillers which will only treat individual lines and wrinkles Sculptra treats most areas of the face
which may be of concern e.g.
- Lines, wrinkles and folds
- Lines between your nose and mouth (naso-labial folds)
- Lines around the corners of your mouth
- Wrinkles in the cheeks and chin
- Sunken cheeks
- Recessed temple area
- Jowls
Sculptra works gradually to produce a natural effect. Usually two to three treatments are required and results should be noticeable after approximately six weeks, (however, in some patients this may take longer or require more treatments).
Clinical studies have shown that the results of Sculptra can last for up to three years, significantly longer than many other injectable treatments.
No allergy testing is required before treatment, unlike some other products.
The main ingredient of Sculptra has been used in medicine for over 25 years and has a good safety profile
Sculptra is marketed by "Sanofi Aventis" one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies
How is the treatment carried out and does it hurt?
With the use of topical anaesthetic cream any discomfort is kept to an absolute minimum. The procedure consists of a series of injections into the skin of a Poly-L-Lactic Acid in a water based solution. Over time this solution stimulates skin to produce more collagen and increases the thickness of the dermis.
What are the side effects?
The most common side effect is bleeding, bruising, tenderness, redness and swelling at the site of the injection. These side effects generally resolve in 2-6 days. As with all procedures that involve an injection through the skin there is a risk of infection. Report any side effects to your Healthcare Professional.
Are the results from SCULPTRA immediate?
After the first treatment it may appear that Sculptra has worked immediately but it is merely some swelling and the water used to dilute Sculptra. In a few days when the water has been absorbed by the body and the swelling has gone down you may look as you did before your treatment .However once the product starts working results should be noticeable after approximately 6 weeks.
