Spider Phobia
Nurse Carol-Ann Swanson had been scared of spiders since she was a little girl. And the 29 year old from Ayr admitted her tendency to scream and run away from anything that looked remotely like a spider was not a good idea given her work. in psychiatry. The seeds of her fear were sown early. Carol Ann said 'my brother used to get me to close my eyes then put a Spider in my outstretched hand.' Even the pom-pom spiders that hung from the classroom ceiling were 'terrifying'. Carol Ann, who has a three year old daughter, said 'My phobia seemed to get worse over the years, I'd scream if I saw a bit of thread or fluff on the floor and was always scouring the floor in case there were spiders.' She said 'I work in a psychiatric department and if I saw a spider in the hospital I'd scream and run away- not a reaction that inspires confidence in a psychiatric nurse.' A friend recommended Ali and she was amazed when he cured her in just an hour. To prove he had cured her he introduced her to Rosie his pet Tarantula, and Carol Ann was so unfazed she asked to handle her. She said, 'I love animals and what I felt when I held Rosie in my hand was the warmth I feel for animals. I'm absolutely amazed I could be cured so quickly'. Now she is looking forward to 'spending the summer in the garden and playing with her daughter in her playhouse.
